The north island spring eventing calendar finally got underway over the weekend, one month later than planned, with 159 combinations starting at the Northern Hawkes Bay Horse Trial at Hastings Equestrian Park 2-3 October. Run under Covid alert level 2 restrictions the event was split into two ‘one day’ events which saw the upper level classes compete on Saturday and the CCN80 and CCN95 on Sunday.

The true one day format is not common these days but this “express style” competition fits nicely with the covid level 2 restrictions and allows competitors to keep in their designated “bubbles” and complete all three tests in one day, with one rider commenting that “one day events might be the best thing to come out of covid!”.

Thanks to the hard working committee and dedicated group of officials and volunteers for making the event happen and congratulations to the class winners and placegetters.
