World no.2 Tim Price and Falco have won the CCI4*-L at the Millstreet International Horse Trials this morning, heading home an 18-strong field in Ireland.

The Kiwi combo led from the get-go, scoring 28 penalty points in the dressage, adding time penalties in the cross country and nothing in the showjumping to finish on 42.8. Harry Meade (GBR) and Tenareze came in for second on 45.4 and Tom McEwen (GBR) aboard CHF Cooliser third on 47.6.

The result rounded out an excellent mission to Millstreet for Team Price, with the golden couple of eventing almost taking out all top three classes. Earlier Jonelle was second and third in the CCI4*-S.

Tim was very pleased with the week in Millstreet despite the weather. “It did rain a lot – the forecast was for rain so we were expecting it and the ground was very wet so I didn’t quite tick the box of going quicker in the cross country (of the CCI4*-L) but it worked out to be the second fastest of the day. I am just super pleased with Falco.,” he said.

“He is some horse now as he has learnt his job and of being a versatile all-rounder rather than just really good at a couple of things, he has become really good at everything. He is a very exciting horse that is for sure.”

James Avery and Mr Sneezy were eighth with 83.5 and Tim aboard Spartaco was 10th on 101.6. “There was some experience gained for him (Spartaco) in the class,” said Tim. “I think he is one to watch for the future but he did struggle with the heavy going.”

Just four combinations, including Tim with both his mount, were clear and inside time over the James Tarrant (IRL) designed showjumping course this morning.

Jonelle Price and Faerie Magnifico were second in the CCI3*-L, scoring 27 penalty points, which was the same as winner Ludwig Svennerstal (SWE) aboard Vivero. Hollie Swain and Drumnaconnell Nico finished in seventh position on 43 penalty points in the 34-strong field.

Team Price are now en route to Germany via The Netherlands to prepare for the CCI5* Luhmuhlen event where they have six horses between the two competing across the grades.
