A stop late in the cross country has seen Caroline Powell slip to 20th spot in the CCIYH3*-L for seven-year-olds at the FEI WBFSH Eventing World Breeding Championship for Young Horses at Mondial du Lion in France.

Riding the Irish-bred Greenacres Special Cavalier, who is by Cavalier Royale out of Greenacres Touch (by Touchdown), Caroline added 20 jump penalties and .8 time to finish the day on 51.4 penalty points in 20th spot.

Pierre Michelet’s cross country certainly challenged the 42-strong field with 11 eliminations and three retirements. Just 28 remain in contention for the title. Sophie Leube (GER) and Sweetwaters Ziethen TSF are still on their dressage score of 27.6 at the top of the field.

Samantha Lissington had to withdraw

Ricker Ridge Ricochet from the CCIYH2*-L for six-year-olds due to a spider bite. The horse has been scanned and is now on antibiotics. “2020 strikes again,” Samantha wrote in her Facebook post. “She will hopefully be good as gold in a few days’ time but for now she gets some R and R.”

New Zealand-bred Ricker Ridge Ricochet is by GT Jake out of Sunshine Nardioso (by Landioso).

Tom McEwen (GBR) and MHS Brown Jack still lead the 33-strong field on 26.6 penalty points.
