Jumping is thrilled to announce the South Canterbury North Otago Area recipient of the ESNZ and NZPH Star Spotters Scholarship 2020-2021. This is first of twenty Star Spotters scholarships to be awarded for this season. Every area throughout New Zealand has been given the opportunity to select one up and coming young rider under the age of twenty five as their recipient.

The first of these scholarships has been awarded to Willow Cleghorn. Willow is 16 years old, attends Timaru Girls High School and is in year 11. Willow has been riding since she was 6 years old, competing in RTR and working hunter classes at A&P shows during the last season.

Willow’s mount is L.P.G, known at home as Gem. Gem is a 158cm, 12 year old grey Swedish WB mare. Willow has been a teamed with Gem for a year now.

This scholarship aims to encourage riders to make the step up into ESNZ registered Show Jumping and Show Hunter by offering a free full year of ESNZ membership for the rider, and one year registration for their horse or pony.  Each area also provides a mentor and Willow will be mentored by local Show Jumping rider and SCNO Committee member Harriet Gardner. Both Willow and the SCNO area wished to express their thanks to NZPH and ESNZ for this opportunity.
