Exciting and new combinations have been included into the latest ESNZ Eventing squads announced today.

Beth Wilson and Vicki Brown-Cole have both stepped up from the Talent Identification Squad to join Abigail Long and Jessica Woods in the Talent Development Squad. There four new additions to the TID in Rosa Millar, Kelli Frewin, Alena Dorotich and Brittany Fowler, joining Sam Mynott, Abbey Thompson and Lucy Turner.

The New Zealand-based Talent Development Squad strives to develop the capability and skills of young eventing riders to enable them to produce competitive horses at 4* level and above. They need to be proven at 3* level, stepping up to 4*. “There have been a pleasing number of riders coming through the High Performance Programme over the past couple of years, with the likes of Monica Oakley, Amanda Pottinger and Maddy Crowe, who earlier moved into the High Performance Futures Squad,” said ESNZ high performance director Simon Bennett.

The Talent ID Squad looks to introduce riders between 18 and 22 who are consistent at 2* level with the capability of stepping up to 3*. “Selectors are really looking for riders who want to focus on eventing in their teen years with a keen eye to future success as they move up the grades,” says Simon.

Performance programme leader Jock Paget and his team are looking forward to working with the squads as eventing moves back into full swing.
