Grace Percy and Kiwi Spirit winners of the Equissage Horse Grand Prix at Ashburton Area Show Jumping and Show Hunter on 24 November

The Ashburton Area Show Jumping and Show Hunter Group held their first show of the season at the Ashburton A&P Show Grounds over the weekend.

The hotly contested Harrison Lane Pro-Am Rider Series Class was taken out by Kirsty Sharapoff and Shoot The Breeze, who jumped double clear with a jump-off time of 38.02.

Kirsty has had the 13-year-old Thoroughbred Gelding, known as “Merv” since he was 4 and has also Evented him to 4* Level.  Kirsty says “Merv is awesome!! (And he knows it!) he is a clever lad and gets me out of most of the trouble I get him into. He loves show jumping!! I was pretty chuffed with our Pro Am win although I did have a wee life over the planks, it’s good it wasn’t windy!!”. They plan on competing in some more show jumping events during the season before hopefully heading to the Taupo Three Day Event in May.

The combination followed up their Pro Am win by finishing 3rd in their first ever Cavalleria Toscana Horse Mini Prix Series Class, which Katie Meredith had the quinella in with Westgrove GNZ and Ngahiwi Double Cross.

Grace Percy and Kiwi Spirit continued their success by winning their second Equissage Horse Grand Prix class in the row, making it two starts for two wins at Grand Prix level for the pair. 15-year-old Anna Nalder and Mangakaraa Carbon Copy took out the Country TV Pony Grand Prix. Anna riding Icebreaker II also finished in 2nd place in the Equifibre Junior Rider Series Class, this was won by Beth Coleman aboard Sea Minor.

The consistent combination of Margaret Ridley and Tallaght picked up another win in the Dunstan Horsefeeds Amateur Rider Series Class. The FMG Young Rider was won by Mackenzie Causer and Finch Farm Lasall.
