Wet conditions all day didn’t worry Emily Cammock’s performances today at Eventing Canterbury’s first day of their two-day event at the National Equestrian Centre, Christchurch. After dressage and show jumping, Emily leads not only the main class, the 4* on Shaw Lee, but also the Bates Saddles CCI3* on Antara, and is first, second and fourth in the Hobson Horse Coaches and Motor Homes CCN105 with Golden Kiwi, Couper and DSE Southern Halo.
Emily’s performance in the show jumping was especially noteworthy as she did not incur any jumping faults on any of her horses in awful conditions that tested many of the other competitors.
In the very competitive Ultimate Design & Renovation LTD CCI2* there are currently two leaders; Annabelle Jones on Braxton Boy and Ella Morshuis on World Famous. Ella had led after the dressage but a rail in the showjumping dropped her back to be on the same score as Annabelle.
There is another quinella going on after the first two phases of the Saddlery Barn CCN95 Under 21 with Gemma Lewis leading on Triple Star Blank Canvas, and also holding second place on RMS Samson.
In the Continuous Spouting CCN105 Under 21 Years, Lucy Cochrane and Gymanji continue their dominance at this level especially in the dressage phase. Her clear show jumping phase gives her an 8.3 penalty advantage heading into the all-important cross country phase tomorrow.
Organisers are hopeful that the weather improves for tomorrow, but one thing that can be counted on at the National Equestrian Centre is that the cross country footing will be good, no matter what the weather conditions are. Cross country gets underway at 8.30am with two of the lower classes, and then the main class. Entry to the National Equestrian Centre at McLeans Island is free tomorrow for spectators.
