There have been more solid results from New Zealand’s showjumpers competing in the CSIO5* show in Gijon overnight.

Samantha McIntosh and Alaid de Chez Nous placed 11th in the 69-strong two phase 1.40m class. The Kiwi combo were double clear in 35.1 seconds with Daniel Meech and Dominick also just in the money with their 17th place effort of a double clear in 37.54 seconds. Bruce Goodin and Backatorps Danny V picked up a single time penalty in the second round where 38 combinations were chasing the prize purse. The class was won by Alexander Butler (IRL) aboard Dekato in 31.52 seconds.

In the 1.50m Daniel Meech aboard Cinca 3, Richard Gardner on Calisto 5 and Samantha McIntosh with Check In 2 each had a rail apiece in the opener. The 79-strong class was won by Luciana Diniz (POR) aboard Vertigo du Desert who was all clear in 64.45 seconds.

Next up is the 1.6m Nations Cup class where Samantha on Check In 2, Richard on Calisto 5, Bruce on Backatorps Danny V and Tom Tarver with Popeye.
They’ll do battle against some strong combinations from France, Italy, Egypt, Spain, Germany, Portugal, Sweden, The Netherlands, Mexico, Ireland and great Britain. New Zealand has drawn sixth to go in the class which gets underway tonight Friday 11.00pm NZ time.

Also on tonight is the CSIO5* 1.40M jump-off where both Samantha and Daniel have qualified.
