Kiwi showjumpers have had a solid start to competition at the CSIO5* in Gijon, Spain.

Samantha McIntosh and James S placed fourth in the 84-strong 1.40m class, finishing all clear in a time of 70.82 seconds. Daniel Meech and Faith 13 were just in the money with their 18th place effort after going clear in 83.97 seconds. Alexander Butler (IRL) and Dekato took the win with 64.72.

Tom Tarver and Popeye were the best of the bunch in the two phase 1.50m class with a double clear in 37.44 seconds for 12th place. Daniel Meech and Cinca 3 picked up a single time penalty in the opening round to finish out of the running in the 65-strong class. Ellen Whitaker (GBR) and Jack Van’T Kattenheye won the class with her double clear 32.03 second effort.

Tonight is the Nations’ Cup draw with the competition on Friday (Spanish time).
