Brooke Edgecombe and LT Holst Andrea have continued their very consistent form with another grand prix victory, this time at the Central Hawke’s Bay A&P Show at Waipukurau to complete a hattrick at their ‘local’.

It is the third consecutive win in the Waipukurau Grand Prix for Brooke and Andrea. They were one of four from the 13 starters to come back for the jump-off where going last proved just the ticket. Melody Matheson (Havelock North) and Graffiti MH was second to go, and Brooke figured the only way to beat their quick and clear round was to take an inside turn to the last.

She was right on the money and came home in 37.71 seconds to Melody’s 39.6. Brooke’s win was their second from five starts, with she and LT Holst Andrea placing every time.

“She is pretty consistent and going well,” she said of the 10-year-old mare. “She is definitely the best horse I have ever had. It was a competitive field in that class but thankfully everything went to plan for us.”

She is rapt with Andrea’s progress, which she has carefully nurtured through the grades. “We try not to rush our horses and let them develop at the pace they want to. The main thing is to keep that consistency going for the whole season which is harder than you think.”

Brooke said course designer Heather MacDonald had produced some good courses throughout the two day show.

It’s a busy household at the Edgecombe’s Waipuk farm but Brooke, Oliver and helper Isla have a good system going that keeps everything on an even keel – with 15-month-old Sophie at the centre of it all.

In the nine-strong Country TV Pony Grand Prix, just Lucy Buchanan (Hastings) aboard Redcliffs Colour Me Quick and Lily Moore (Poukawa) aboard Showtym Highlight came back for the jump-off where again both girls were all clear. However, Lucy’s 38.86 second round just took the edge over Lily’s 40.54 effort.
