It’s been another very full day at WEG. The good, the bad and the heartbreaking all had a part to play with the team today.

The first of our horses have now shipped out with the jumping horses probably very relieved to move from quarantine and to their stables. The jumping riders are also on the ground now and will be chomping at the bit to get out and ride.

Eventing dressage is done and dusted and the Germans are looking pretty strong. No-one could come close to Julia Krajewski (GER) and her 19.9 penalty point score but all of the Kiwis showed some real brilliance. Tim Price is the best of our lot in ninth equal.

There’s still plenty of talk about Hurricane Florence and while she has been downgraded to a tropical storm she is still expected to have an impact at the TIEC. Competition on Sunday has been postponed, meaning the eventing showjumping will run on Monday and the dressage freestyle could also possibly follow suit.

The pure dressage had a quite spectacular day by all accounts, with maestro Isabell Werth (GER) and Bella Rose taking out the Grand Prix Special with 86.246% – nearly 6% ahead of her closest rival. The crowd adored her.

Speaking of crowds, there are certainly big numbers coming through the gates from all over the globe. With the people comes a lot of rubbish and it doesn’t take long before the bins are overflowing. I am not entirely sure there is a lot of recycling going on which is sad when you consider the efforts New Zealand is going to, to try and improve the lot of the world.
