The star of the day

Olivia Dalton won both the junior rider and horse mini prix at Woodhill Sands’ first show of the season, the Alltech Spring Grand Prix Show.

Olivia Dalton has started the 2018-2019 season with a hiss and a roar producing excellent results with her team at the Alltech Spring Grand Prix Show at Woodhill Sands.

Olivia took out the Dunstan Horsefeeds and EquiFibre Junior Rider Series class aboard new Aussie import Cil Dara Bonaparte and the Alltech Horse Mini Prix with Master of Hossack.

In the mini prix, she and the 11-year-old stationbred gelding blitzed the jump-off field, coming home nearly 10 seconds clear of the second-placed Rosie Commons (Auckland) aboard Athena GNZ. Sixteen-year-old Olivia teamed up with the horse in January and spent the remainder of last season consolidating the new partnership. She is rapt he has come out so strongly for the new season.

It was much closer in the 13-strong junior rider class but she and Cil Dara Bonaparte still had a relatively comfortable 3.08 second buffer over runner-up Sarah West (Matamata) on Oaks Centurian. Cil Dara Bonaparte was one of two Australian horses Olivia bought with the help of Tom Tarver over the winter and she is very excited about the coming months.

“I am so excited for my team and the season ahead,” says the Year 12 St Kentigern College student. “It was a great start.”

The opening show of the season attracted 180 combinations with Wayne Bragg designing in ring one.
