Jonelle Price is chasing her quest for back-to-back CCI4* wins hard. She and Faerie Dianimo have moved from sixth to second place after the cross county in the CCI4* at Luhmuhlen in Germany, and now sit just .9 behind the leader.

Price was clear in the cross country but three seconds over time which saw 1.2 time penalties added to her score, to finish the day on 28.3. “Cross country is simply her thing,” she said of Faerie Dianimo. “The mare absolutely loves it. She does tend to get a little strong but she was amazing today.”

Jesse Campbell and Amsterdam 21 had a refusal late in the course to finish the day on 67.1 in 20th spot. Campbell had a fall with his second mount Cleveland in the water. Both horse and rider are fine but Campbell was gutted.

“We landed good and then just tripped on something,” he said. “It’s gutting. Both horses gave me super rides. We will refocus and go again, better and stronger. They are good horses who will definitely have their day in the sun.”

Blyth Tait and Havana had a refusal late in the course and opted to retire.

Boyd Martin (USA) and Shamwari moved from eighth to the top of the leaderboard after adding nothing to their dressage score, to sit on 27.4.

Just five combinations came home clear and inside time, with 10 retiring on course and a further five eliminated, leaving 31 in the field.
Heading into tonight’s showjumping, there isn’t much between riders at the top of the leaderboard, with a single rail between first and fifth. The action gets underway at 8.00pm tonight (Sunday) NZ time.
