Charisma and Hoffman Trophies on display at Central Districts

Eventing Central Districts held the Young Rider championships at “Pukemarama” on 28/ 29 April.

While it was hosing down up north the organisers were very fortunate that the rain only came in briefly on Saturday afternoon, after the completion of the dressage. The grounds were in beautiful condition with a good sward of grass providing excellent going on Cross Country day.

The event was sponsored by Norwood Farm Machinery and the tractors on display provided a focus amid the flags and bunting.

The Young Rider Champs were shifted to E C D following the cancellation of the planned northern event due to wet weather.

There were some excellent lines ridden, particularly through the water and over the bank. The 1 * and 2 * riders are to be congratulated on attacking John Holmes’s course in a professional manner. The big crowd around the water appreciated the good riding.

Five of the 2 * competitors completed without time faults and the class was won by local rider Bryce Newman on the classy Bates Game Keeper.

Likewise the winner of the beautiful Young Rider trophy, Beth Wilson on Alto et Audax, completed a fault-free cross country but had a rail show jumping. Lots of rails fell during the Saturday show jumping and Bryce was the only competitor to to finish on his dressage score in the 2 *.

The CIC1 *, also sponsored by Norwood Farm Machinery, produced some good riding but all but two riders had taken rails in the show jumping. Jasmyn Speake and D S E Beyond Compare completed on their dressage score to win the Junior Rider, with Georgie Dickson and Tigerherz runner-up.

Tayla Mason finished second and fourth on Centennial and The Innkeeper in the 1 *.

Abby Lawrence and the experienced Anonymous won the  CNC1*, sponsored by Mamaku Stud.

In the Dom Health CN C105 and the Palamountains CNC under 21 105 the riders in the money all finished on their dressage scores, though time faults relegated Angela Lloyd into second place.

The Horsewyse CNC95 was won by Louise Mulholland and George of the Jungle. with Hannah Chowen taking the lead in the Petapix CNC95 under 18.

In the CNC80’s the big classes got round in double quick time in the good conditions with no hold-ups.

Congratulations to all the riders and many thanks to all the Cross Country Jump Judges who were relieved to finish at 3pm.

Many thanks to the McKelvie family whose grounds provided such excellent going.

Also a big thank you to all the volunteers and officials who contributed to a successful event.
