There is plenty of eventing action in the Northern Hemisphere, with New Zealand fielding a team in the FEI Nations Cup at Houghton Hall, and individuals competing in France and Poland.

Jesse Campbell has got the Kiwis off to a great start in the CICO3* Nations Cup, sitting in fourth spot at the end of day one with a dressage score of 26.8 penalty points aboard Amsterdam – just 2.8 off the lead.

Tonight will see the remaining team members Caroline Powell and Neil Spratt complete their dressage aboard Sinatra Frank Baby and Galwaybay Echo respectively.

Campbell is also starring in the CCI1*, leading on Diachello with Neil Spratt also in the top 10 on his young horses.

Chef d’equipe Jacky Green says the ground is firm but there’s rain in the forecast for the next 24 hours. “Bizarrely the 1* and 2* run in front of the house, with the CCIO3* in the grounds out in the park, which makes it a bit lacking in atmosphere,” she said.

Tim Price and Pats Jester are competing in the CIC3* at the Equestrian Festival Baborowko in Poland and are set to go in the second half of the dressage tonight.

Twenty of the field have already completed their dressage, with Sara Algotsson Ostholt (SWE) and Wega leading the way on 27.5 penalty points. There are plenty of very inform combinations from 12 nations taking part in Poland, including world number one Oliver Townend (GBR), Maxime Livio (FRA) and Andreas Dibowski (GER) – all chasing their share of the 100,000 Euro prize pool. The event will be livestreamed through the event’s website.

Sir Mark Todd and McClaren are also in the second half of the CCI3* dressage draw at Saumur Complet in France. Gonzalo Blasco Botin (ESP) and SIJ Veux D’Autize are leading on 29.2 penalty points. Nineteen of the 36-strong field have finished their dressage.
